Frequently Asked Questions
Our Care & Treatment Approach
What exactly do you treat here?
We treat addiction alongside underlying mental health issues. We believe you cannot treat one without the other. This is often called "Concurrent Disorder" or "Dual Diagnosis," and our team is trained to handle anxiety, depression, and trauma alongside substance use.
Do you offer detox?
We provide non-medical detox to keep clients safe and comfortable while managing withdrawal. However, for severe medical cases, we may coordinate with a local hospital for stabilization before the client transitions into our care.
Is this a 12-Step program (AA/NA)?
We are "12-Step friendly."
We introduce these principles as a support tool, but it is not our only method. We combine it with clinical therapies (like CBT) and holistic practices to create a well-rounded plan.
Can you accommodate clients on Suboxone or Methadone?
Yes.
We support Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and recognize it as a vital tool for recovery. We coordinate with prescribing physicians to ensure safe dosing schedules.
Life at the Facility
What does a typical day look like?
Our days are structured to build healthy habits. A typical schedule includes:
-
Morning: Chef-prepared breakfast, meditation/yoga, and group therapy.
-
Afternoon: Lunch, individual counseling, workshops, and fitness.
-
Evening: Dinner, 12-step or reflection meetings, and downtime.
How many people are here?
We keep our community small, with a maximum of 8 clients.
This allows us to maintain a low client-to-staff ratio (1:5) so that everyone gets individual attention.
Are personal phones or laptops allowed?
Generally, No.
We ask clients to leave internet-connected devices behind to prevent distractions and triggers. This helps clients disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with themselves.
Is smoking or vaping allowed?
Yes.
We understand quitting substances is hard enough without quitting nicotine simultaneously. We have designated outdoor areas for smoking and vaping; it is not permitted indoors.
Family & Communication
Can I visit my loved one?
Yes.
Family involvement is crucial. Once the client has settled in, we offer designated visitation times (usually weekends), which must be approved by the clinical team.
How do I know how they are doing?
While direct phone contact is limited to specific weekly windows, our counselors provide regular updates to families regarding progress and treatment plans (provided the client has signed a consent form).
What if there is an emergency at home?
Families can call our main administrative line 24/7.
If there is a genuine emergency, staff will assess the situation and facilitate communication immediately.
Safety & Security
Is the facility secure?
Safety is our top priority.
We have staff on-site and awake 24 hours a day. The facility is also monitored by a 24/7 surveillance system covering common areas and the grounds.
What about privacy?
We strictly adhere to PHIPA (privacy laws).
We cannot confirm or deny that anyone is a client here without their specific written consent to protect their privacy.
Do you perform drug testing?
Yes.
To ensure a sober environment for everyone, we conduct urine drug screens both randomly and if we have cause for concern.
Do you search belongings?
Yes.
Upon admission, we search all luggage to ensure no drugs, alcohol, weapons, or unapproved electronics enter the facility.
Medical & Staffing
Who handles medications?
For safety, clients do not keep their own medications.
All meds are surrendered at intake, stored securely, and dispensed by trained staff at prescribed times.
What are the staff qualifications?
-
Clinical Staff: Therapists and counselors hold relevant degrees and are registered with their respective colleges.
-
Support Staff: All support staff are trained in First Aid/CPR, Crisis Intervention, and Trauma-Informed Care.
-
Medical: We have a doctor available virtually 24/7 (and in-person as needed) and staff trained in overdose response (Naloxone).
Admissions & Logistics
What is the cost, and what does it cover?
The fee ($18,000+) covers specialized, 24/7 professional care.
This includes clinical therapy, doctor appointments, private accommodations, chef-prepared meals, holistic programming (gym/yoga), and immediate access to a healthcare team that would otherwise take months to access publicly.
How quickly can someone get in?
Depending on availability, we can usually admit new clients within 24 hours to a few days.
What happens if a client wants to leave early?
We are a voluntary facility, not a lockdown unit, so we cannot legally force someone to stay. However, our staff is trained to intervene and encourage clients to stay and finish their treatment.
What should clients bring?
-
Comfortable clothing for about a week (we have laundry facilities).
-
Alcohol-free toiletries, valid ID, and health card.
-
All current medications in unopened bottles.
